This explains how the departure boards and audio announcements work at Shore Line East stations, so you know where to look and when. Always confirm your train with the Trip Planner, and listen for platform announcements close to departure. Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, and Westbrook: the electronic boards at these Shore Line East stations only signal when a train is approaching. They do not show train or track details. Use the posted schedules at the station or the Shore Line East website for schedule and track information.
Old Saybrook: you get two announcements, one 10 minutes before departure and a final boarding call 5 minutes before. The display system runs during station hours, 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Outside those hours, if a track changes, the crew is notified and the train holds until everyone has reached the correct track.
New London: the boards only signal when a train is approaching. All trains board on the high-level platform. For safety, only one train is allowed in the station at a time (a federal safety requirement), so a train may hold outside the station until the platform is clear, which can add delay when trains run late.
Boarding a Shore Line East train: you can board 5 to 10 minutes before departure, once the conductor is present.
