Hartford Line One-Way Tickets

A Hartford Line one-way ticket covers a single ride between the two stations printed on it. It is valid for 60 days from the date of purchase and can be used in either direction. The Hartford Line does not sell round-trip tickets, so a round trip means buying two one-way tickets.

A one-way ticket bought from CTrail is valid on CTrail Hartford Line trains and on Amtrak trains that run on the Hartford Line schedule. During peak holiday periods such as Thanksgiving, CTrail tickets may not be accepted on Amtrak trains on our schedule. If you plan to take an Amtrak train on the schedule during those times, we recommend buying a ticket directly from Amtrak.

Seniors 65 and older, riders with disabilities, and children ages 2 to 12 ride at reduced fares. Eligibility, ID, and pricing are in Hartford Line Fares and Discounts.

How to buy a CTrail one-way ticket:

1. CTrail eTix app (iOS and Android): credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay.

2. Ticket vending machines at all Hartford Line stations: cash, credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay.

3. On board a CTrail Hartford Line train: you can pay by cash or credit card, and for cash use small bills, $20 or less. A 3 dollar surcharge applies per transaction, waived for seniors and riders with disabilities.

To use the ticket in the eTix app, tap Activate once you are on board. An activated one-way ticket is valid for 180 minutes. If you board at a station not listed on your ticket, you can pay the fare difference on board a CTrail Hartford Line train.

Amtrak-issued Hartford Line one-way tickets work differently. They require a reservation and are valid only for the specific train, date, and time booked. An Amtrak ticket can be used on a CTrail Hartford Line train the same day, up to about two hours after the reserved Amtrak departure time, while it is still active in Amtrak's system. After that, the ticket will no longer work and can’t be used for travel or refunded. If you miss your Amtrak train, see a ticket agent or call Amtrak right away for help at 1-800-872-7245

Buy Amtrak tickets in advance at amtrak.com, in the Amtrak app, by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, or at the New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield Union Station windows. They cannot be bought on board.
