Shore Line East Overview and FAQ

CTrail Shore Line East is a regional rail service that runs seven days a week, including holidays, between New London and New Haven, with select weekday trains continuing to Stamford. At New Haven Union Station you can connect to Metro-North for southwestern Connecticut and New York City. For times, use the Shore Line East Trip Planner at shorelineeast.com.

Stations (nine): New London, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, Guilford, Branford, New Haven State Street, and New Haven Union Station.

Accessibility and onboard:

  • All trains and stations are ADA accessible, and train crews help with boarding and exiting.
  • At some stations, due to Federal Railroad Administration rules and platform length, crews open doors only on the center cars. After boarding, you can move between cars.
  • All trains have restrooms. Station restrooms are at New London, Old Saybrook, and New Haven Union Station.
  • Shore Line East trains do not have Wi-Fi, but they have power outlets at each seat.
  • Smoking and vaping are not allowed on trains, platforms, or in stations.

Onboard policies:

  • Bicycles are welcome on all Shore Line East trains; stay with your bike and follow crew instructions. Large groups should plan ahead with Customer Service.
  • Pets must be in a closed, ventilated carrier or on a leash and well behaved. Service animals are always allowed.
  • Luggage: overhead racks and space under the seats. There is no checked baggage service.

Connections and New York City:

  • Several stations have connecting local bus service; see the connecting services page at shorelineeast.com.
  • To go beyond New Haven, connect at New Haven Union Station to the Hartford Line, Metro-North, or Amtrak. For New York City, transfer to Metro-North for Grand Central or to Amtrak for Penn Station.
  • Shore Line East trains will wait a reasonable amount of time at New Haven Union Station for late-arriving Metro-North trains.
