Hartford Line Overview and FAQ

The CTrail Hartford Line is a regional rail service that runs daily between New Haven, CT and Springfield, MA along the I-91 corridor. It is a partnership of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, TransitAmerica Services and Alternate Concepts (TASI/ACI), and Amtrak. At New Haven Union Station you can connect to the Metro-North New Haven Line for southwestern Connecticut and Grand Central Terminal in New York City. Trains run seven days a week, including holidays. For times, use the Hartford Line Trip Planner at hartfordline.com.

Stations (nine): Springfield Union Station, Windsor Locks, Windsor, Hartford Union Station, Berlin, Meriden, Wallingford, New Haven State Street, and New Haven Union Station.

Accessibility and onboard:

  • All trains and stations are accessible. Stations between New Haven and Hartford have high-level platforms; lifts are available at Springfield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
  • Mobility devices: CTrail trains accommodate devices up to 32 inches wide; Amtrak trains up to 30 inches.
  • All trains have accessible restrooms.
  • Wi-Fi is available only on Amtrak-operated Hartford Line trains. CTrail-operated trains do not have Wi-Fi.
  • Power outlets: Amtrak-operated trains have them at most seats; CTrail-operated trains have fewer, typically under aisle seats.
  • Smoking and vaping are not allowed on trains, platforms, or in stations. Masks are not required.

Connections:

  • All Connecticut stations are served by CTtransit (cttransit.com). Springfield Union Station is served by PVTA (pvta.com).
  • Bradley Airport: no direct train, but Route 30 Bradley Flyer connects Hartford Union Station and Bradley (Terminal A) seven days a week, and Route 24 Windsor-Bradley connects Windsor Locks Station and Bradley (Terminal A) on weekdays. Taxis and rideshare are also available.
  • MGM Springfield is a 12-minute walk from Springfield Union Station, or take the PVTA Loop bus.

Bicycles: on CTrail Hartford Line trains, bikes are allowed at no extra charge with no reservation, subject to space. On Amtrak Hartford Line trains, a reservation for you and your bike and a bike fee are required before boarding. Use the Trip Planner to confirm whether your train is CTrail or Amtrak.

Lost and found: for items lost on CTrail-operated Hartford Line trains, go to hartfordline.com and select Customer Service, then Report a Lost Item, or call 877-287-4337. For Amtrak-operated trains, contact Amtrak at 1-800-872-7245. Have the date, train number, item description, and your contact information ready.

Real-time updates: check hartfordline.com, the station information display screens, or sign up for text or email alerts. To report a malfunctioning signal gate, call 1-800-243-1255 and give the number on the crossing sign.
