Weekday, Weekend, and Holiday Service

The Hartford Line runs every day of the week. We typically operate a modified schedule on most major holidays and notify riders in advance.  Try the trip planner on https://www.hartfordline.com

We also recommend checking with your connecting train operator (like Shore Line East, Amtrak, or Metro-North) for modified schedules when traveling during holidays.


During Busy Travel Periods

For major holidays, many Amtrak Hartford Line trains can sell out. During those times, we recommend:

Connections and Destinations

The Trip Planner on https://www.hartfordline.com shows connections to Shore Line East and Metro-North services. If you’re traveling to New York City, simply enter your starting Hartford Line station and “New York (Grand Central)” — the planner will display the full trip, including the connecting Metro-North train.


Bus Service on the Hartford Line

  • The CTrail 950 bus operates on weekdays as part of the regular Hartford Line schedule. It is listed in the Trip Planner on https://www.hartfordline.com alongside train service.

  • During planned construction or service changes, some Hartford Line trains may be temporarily replaced by buses. These planned replacement buses are always shown in the Trip Planner on https://www.hartfordline.com (look for the bus icon).

  • For unplanned bus substitutions (such as mechanical issues or emergencies), these will not appear in the Trip Planner. Always check the Service Alerts on https://www.hartfordline.com for the latest information.

  • A bus logo next to your Amtrak train time means a planned replacement bus will run for that part of your trip instead of a train.

Unplanned Bus Replacements

  • If a train is unexpectedly replaced by a bus (mechanical issue, emergency, etc.), it will not appear in the Trip Planner.

Track Information

Track assignments can change at any time, so always confirm before boarding.
